In today’s episode we venture down south to explore an abandoned movie set mall for hit films like the mule and zombie land. But the mall wasn’t always a film set. It originally opened back in 1965 with over 85 stores spanning across 640,000 square feet. Over the years like many malls stores began to change with older companies closing and new ones taking their place. In 2003 the mall was purchased for $25,000,000 and had plans to bring a Costco to the building but ultimately never happened. In 2014 the mall changed hands again with more plans that almost happened. And in 2016 after being sold once more with those plans never coming to life this mall then became known as the almost mall. And with stores beginning to close down due to the wave of online shopping Hollywood film crews began to use this massive building for movies including one of my favorites Zombieland in 2019. Inside you may think a fire was once broke out but actually that smoke affect you see is special effects to create an apocalyptic atmosphere for the movie. Maybe one day we will see more hit films from this place.
