This video is intended to illustrate some of the many different capabilities of AI when utilized by someone with an understanding of the fundamentals of filmmaking. Although it can be entirely possible to quickly generate amazing content with some amount of luck, consistent quality is only found when combining skill, knowledge and extreme patience. In other words, AI is not yet the quick solution that some standing on the sidelines would believe it to be. The real value comes with AI opening the door to new levels of imagining that would previously have cost millions of dollars to achieve in traditional legacy production models. This technology allows individuals with enough motivation and tenacity to tell big stories in a way that was previously out of reach. This new equalizing distribution of storytelling power is not dissimilar to when film motion picture cameras or even digital video cameras first became available to the masses. Yes, there will be more competition, but this should drive us to do better work. • I, the human that worked with various AI services to render these images, come from traditional filmmaking. I am a director, screenwriter and cinematographer. My experience as a director enables me to direct the flow of the story when working with AI, a process that isn't entirely different to directing real actors or animators. My work as a screenwriter allows me to incorporate the basic structures and arcs into an AI production. This is, again a very similar process to working with traditional production models. Lastly, being able to compose an image in a way most suited to convey a specific feeling or piece of information with traditional cinematography has helped me dive into AI filmmaking with little resistance. An understanding of how light works and which direction it should come from to enhance a scene shows up in these AI images. • It is this human's belief that AI will not take jobs from those working in film or other art forms who are able to evolve with technology, but it will certainly change jobs as we know them today. It is our responsibility to adapt in a way that effectively incorporates the best emerging tools available into our workflows so that we might become better storytellers. Those who fail to embrace change might be left behind for a time being, something that has happened with every new evolution of technology since the beginning of mankind. Although the images found in this reel are made entirely with AI, AI can also be an effective tool to incorporate subtly into traditional filmmaking such as live action or animation. One does not need to lean into AI entirely to benefit from the tremendous advantages it bestows. On the contrary, it is my belief that as AI becomes deeply tied to Hollywood's model of filmmaking there will be more demand for films made with human hands, stories shot on film, and movies that stand on the shoulder's of human achievement. Film can and should be a poetic medium.
