A demonstration of how to rebuild the water pump of a 2004 Yamaha F8M or similar outboard motor. Altogether including delays, this job took a couple hours. Without the delays, it would have taken under an hour. • I apologize for the focus problems in this video, the autofocus on my camera went spastic a couple times but you won't miss anything important. • As sometimes happens when working on boats, things don't always go as planned. During the making of this video and while taking the pump retaining bolts out, one snapped due to galvanic corrosion. • Rather than reshoot or edit this video to make it look problem-free and easy, I've left the challenging parts in so that you can see what this job can really be like if you don't maintain your outboard properly (the motor was new to me). • I describe the process that I used to extract the broken bolt in the blog post that accompanies this video, How to Rebuild an Outboard Motor Water Pump. There are also side-by-side, close-up photos of the worn vs. the new parts there: • http://wp.me/p3Xhtm-19X • If this kind of work intimidates you, you might be better off taking your motor to a mechanic to do it. Just be prepared to pay through the nose if they run into these kinds of problems. • This video is just one point in the blog post titled 15 Outboard Motor Maintenance Blind Spots You Can't Afford to Miss.
