The Philadelphia Phillies failed to complete the sweep of the Padres, taking a 5-2 loss Wednesday afternoon. • Ranger Suarez tossed 6 innings of 1 run baseball, but the Phils bats faltered! Bryce Harper was the lone bright spot for the offense as he knocked his 16th and 17th homers of the season. • The Phillies had a big chance to open an early lead in the 1st inning when a Kyle Schwarber walk and Bryson Stott double put runners are on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. However, the Phillies couldn’t get anyone across the plate. • The 7th and 8th inning proved to be the difference in the game thanks to some self-inflicted wounds. Orion Kerkering hit Jackson Merrill with a pitch. Merrill would later come around to score on a Louis Arraez RBI single. Then in the 8th, Alec Bohm had a field error that allowed the bases to be loaded on SerAnthony Dominguez. Rob Thompson then went to Gregory Soto to try to get out of the jam. Soto got a quick pop-up to get the second out of the inning, then surrendered a 3-run triple to center field by Kyle Higashioka. Higashioka’s liner went JUST under the mitt of Brandon Marsh who was making an all-out sliding attempt to record the final out of the inning to get out of the inning unscathed. • Segment 1: THREE BIG THINGS: 1) 8th inning defensive breakdown! 2) 7th inning mistake, by Kerkering! 2a) How did this offense only get 4 runners in scoring positions the WHOLE GAME?!?!?!? 3) Hey, Bryce Harper hit two homers! • Segment 2: Ranger Suarez’ afternoon!
