This week, a volcano which hasn't erupted in more than 1,000 years and has a history of large explosive eruptions produced an unusual swarm of earthquakes. Meanwhile, in Iceland, the Reykjanes volcano erupted for its 7th time this year, producing a lava flow which covered the entire main parking lot of the Blue Lagoon but thankfully not reaching the attraction proper. And, in Indonesia, the Dempo volcano produced a spectacular but somewhat unexpected eruption. This video will discuss these stories and list the 48 volcanoes which are actively erupting around the planet. • Thumbnail Photo Credit: Mathieu Dorning, mathieu.dorning (on Instagram), Used with Permission • Note: This video's thumbnail image displays the erupting Santa Maria volcano in Guatemala (specifically its Santiaguito lava dome). • If you would like to support this channel, consider using one of the following links: • (Patreon: / geologyhub ) • (YouTube membership: / @geologyhub ) • (Gemstone Mineral Etsy store: http://prospectingarizona.etsy.com) • (GeologyHub Merch Etsy store: http://geologyhub.etsy.com) • Google Earth imagery used in this video: ©Google Data Providers • This video is protected under fair use .
