America’s special operators are at the tip of its military spear, but famous as units like the “Delta Force” are, few know about one of their preferred transports and gunships, the M/AH-6 Little Bird. So what is it exactly? • In service for 40 years, the Little Bird is a maneuverable and low-flying helicopter with a small cross-section that makes it harder to target. • The Little Bird comes in two varieties: the attack version and the transit version. The attack version packs a mixture of 7.62mm machine guns, 2.75-inch unguided rockets, Hellfire anti-tank missiles, and M230 30-millimeter autocannons. • The transit version, meanwhile, can carry six special operators and insert them into almost any location, including in spots between buildings. There is a fast roping system to ensure they get quickly and safely to the ground. • However, at 145 mph, the Little Bird is slow by modern standards, which is one of the reasons why America’s brass is looking for a replacement. • What aircraft do you think could replace the Little Bird? Let us know in the comments. • • #themilitaryshow
