Suggested Step by Step Lesson Sequence: • 1. Flashcard Review of Known Letter-Sounds • 2. Introduce 1-2 new letter sounds • 3. Games to practice (e.g., Bingo, Go Fish, Hockey, etc.)-- see game video • How Do I Teach Phonics? Games and Act... • 4. Teach any other key concepts (e.g., blending, segmenting, new onsets or rimes) and play games to practice-- incorporate as much spelling as possible • 5. High frequency words (I use the Envelope Method I developed, very similar to this: http://blog.maketaketeach.com/teachin...) • 5. Real reading (incorporate repeated reading-- using reader's theatre and funny voices is awesome!) • 6. Real writing (just to build momentum...may incorporate simple editing checklist) • 7. End with celebration/treat/etc. • I need to make videos on picking books at the child's level and doing the envelope spelling method still!
