(5 Jun 2017) JAMES CORDEN STOPS LONDON TRAFFIC AS MARY POPPINS • James Corden stopped traffic in London while filming sketches for his Late Late Show - dressed as Mary Poppins. • The actor and TV host was shooting a Mary Poppins -themed Crosswalk the Musical segment near Somerset House in the center of the capital. • He dressed in an outfit like the one worn by Julie Andrews in the 1964 fantasy musical, which won five Oscars. • Corden and the cast rushed onto the street at a red signal and broke into A Spoonful of Sugar from the film. • A new version, with Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and also starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Ben Whishaw, is currently in production. • We wanted to pick the most London-centric musical we could really, and there's no greater show than 'Mary Poppins,' said 38-year-old Corden, who had previously shot a Crosswalk the Musical sketch based on Disney's Beauty and the Beast in Los Angeles. • We're very grateful to Disney for giving us the ability to do it, you know, because they could have easily said no, but I think they could see the sort of fun in it and I think the success of that 'Beauty and the Beast' one kind of helped, you know? • In the Mary Poppins sketch, the part of Bert (played in the 1964 film by Dick Van Dyke) was given to Sir Ben Kingsley. • When you're doing something as ridiculous as 'Crosswalk the Musical,' you're really looking for the best and most wonderful people that you would never, ever expect to perform in such a manner, and you know, you can't find a finer actor than Sir Ben Kingsley to come and do such a thing, and I'm gobsmacked and thrilled that he could see the fun in it and the joy in it and yeah, I'm a huge fan of his and it's going to be wonderful, said Corden. • Oh, I think it's going to be an enormous cultural treat for me, joked Kingsley. • The Late Late Show With James Corden will be located in London for three special episodes airing this week. • • Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork • Twitter: / ap_archive • Facebook: / aparchives โโ • Instagram: / apnews • • • You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
