Description: The video shows my homemade Segway-batteries and two Off-Board-Charger ($60 each) during real fast charging. • Please note that the charging of an empty XperT-Battery with the original Segway-loading device may take up to 15 ... 17 hours, because only a relatively small current of approx. 0.5A flows. • With two Off-Board-Charger I can charge the two original batteries of a completely empty Segway in just 2 hours and the larger XperT-Batteries in 3 hours - mission completed ! • Summary: • 60% more capacity vs. original battery (+ 36% vs. Lion42) • Presumably first time worldwide more than 1,3 kWh available inside the Segway-batteries • Increasing the range of 34 kilometers to 54 kilometers (i180) • Built-in watt meter and Quick charging port with separate fuse • Fast charging given and tested (3 hrs. = 98%) • Annual measurement of all cells in the E-lab without abnormalities • Intrinsically safe quality cells (UL 1642 approved) • Self-discharge of the cells about 2% / month • security and system redundancy given • Ground clearance is not reduced / not limited • On the test track, the benefit of the XperT-Battery observed in range-increase as follows: • Segway-XT: Series: 25 km, with XperT-Batteries: 42 km • Segway-i180: Series: 34 km, with XperT-Batteries: 54 km • Segway-i2: Series: 32 km, with XperT-Batteries: 51 km • Test-condition: Segway-XT, tire pressure 12 PSI, on-road, flat street, Temp. 20°C, rider weight 90kg. • The built-in watt meter (150V / 130A) shows the following values : • Current drain [+A], [-A] • Battery voltage [V] • Power consumption [W] • Overcurrent [A] • Undervoltage [V] • Capacity [+Ah], [-Ah] • Amount of energy [Wh] • Time where current is greater than 0,5A [hh:mm:ss] • Additional specifications: • Each of the two batteries has a capacity of 9.0 Ah and thus 60% more than the original Segway-battery • Battery housing and battery electronics (BMS) are original but modified • The new lithium cells are intrinsically safe • The lithium cells used meet the safety requirements of UL 1642 • Cell chemistry: lithium ions-manganese (LiIonMn) • Cell configuration: 20s4p (Series: 23s4p) • Number of Cells: 80 / Battery (160 / Segway) • Rated capacity: 9,0 Ah / Battery (18,0 Ah / Segway) • Capacity gain: + 60% vs. Series (5.6 Ah), + 36% vs. Lion42 (6.6 Ah) • Battery current capacity: 40A • Battery internal resistance: 0,150 Ohm (plus connector- cable-Ri.) • Rated voltage: 74,0V (Series: 73,6V) • Charging voltage: 84,0V (Series: 83,95V) • Battery weight: 3.5kg • Battery charging current: up to 9A (1C) • Battery charging time: 3 hours (98%) • Lifetime: more than 800 full cycles • Operating temperature: -20 ... +60 °C (charging: +10 ... +45 °C) • Safety regulations: meets UL 1642 • Changes Segway-Base: none • Changes Battery: housing opening, replacing the cells, BMS-modification • http://www.segforum.de/viewtopic.php?... • IMPORTANT NOTICE: modification, reconstruction and operation of alternative Segway-batteries require some background knowledge, so that the benefit is set also in the longer term. • Safety for man and machine and the Segway integrity should be the top priority ! • .
