This is a relaxed position that offers a relatively low amount of control when it comes to cornering or swerving to avoid anything on your path or that you may need to brake for. • You could also use this as a relatively relaxed riding position on long climbs, or on the indoor trainer. • The hoods are a great position for a large variety of riding. They’re probably the most useable place to put your hands on a ride. Think of this therefore as the default position for most of your riding. • Relaxed hoods positions will probably make up the majority of peoples riding, especially if they frequently ride in groups. It’s a comfortable and safe position, with great control over technical terrain, easy access to the brakes. • The hoods are also the most adjustable contact point on the bar, meaning you can fine tune how they feel to best suit your personal riding needs. • Using the hoods for improved aerodynamics has become a go to for riders at all levels of the sport. The reduced frontal area with flat forearms, tucked shoulders and good forward vision is a hard position to beat for low cda. • Out of the saddle riding for sustained periods is also generally done whilst using the hoods. While you could use the drops, you will probably find it more comfortable using the hoods, especially if on a long climb. • Use the drops for descending, sprinting, technical terrain, hard braking. The drops of the bars offer the most secure hand position and therefore offer great control for technical riding, you should look to use the drops on descents or over road surfaces where there is a risk of your hands slipping off the hoods. • The drops are also an ideal position for sprinting, as you will be able to adopt a compact but powerful and stable position on the bike. • Finally, riding in the drops is also a good position to use when riding in a group, especially when riding through and off close to the wheel in front of you. • • Want to conquer that climb?
