This is about taking your first steps into one of my favourite periods to wargame, The Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871. Despite being a very short war, in the scheme of things, it was perhaps on of the most significant wars of the 19th century. It led to the unification of Germany and some might argue the horrors of WWI and WWII as a result. It also led to the end of the 3rd Empire in France and the start of a new Republic, advances in troops movements and battlefield tactics, as well as the improved technology of infantry firearms and artillery.
