I was given some Pak'n Save gift cards for the kids to use, with the intention for them to shop for food and cook dinner each for our family of five! **See below for timestamps to skip to different parts of the video**. Recipes also written below. • Teaching kids to cook within a budget can be quite an interesting experience and the kids chose their own recipes and discovered what you can buy for what price, and the different between different brands and cost etc! I've written the recipes of the dinners each of the kids made below. • Timestamps (if you want to skip ahead!) • 0:00 Part 1: The Challenge • 1:30 Part 2: The Planning • 4:03 Part 3: The Shop • 8:10 Part 4: Sam's Dinner • 12:55 Part 5: Aston's Dinner • 16:37 Part 6: Olivia's Dinner • Feel free to check out my other videos for recipes, budgeting tips, DIY projects, restorations and work we do on our lifestyle block in New Zealand such as beekeeping and chickens etc. • Check out my Facebook Group, Cheaper Ways NZ, at / cheaperwaysnz for more tips on doing stuff cheaper! • Please hit like, leave me a comment, share the video and subscribe for more! • Kids recipes : • Sam's Cheesy Potato Sausages : • Chop boil potatoes (she used 4 large potatoes, which were more than enough!) until tender. • Cook sausages under the oven grill. • Mash the potatoes • Put slits in the sausages and fill the slits with the mashed potatoes • Sprinkle with cheese and cook for 2-3 minutes in the oven • Serve with a side of green beans. • Aston's Spirally Pasta : • Chop and cook a large onion in a frying pan • Chop 3-4 sausages and cook with the onion • Add a generous teaspoon of crushed garlic • Add 2 cans of chopped tomatoes in juice • Cover and let simmer while the pasta is cooking. • Add the cooked spiral pasta into the sauce, mix then serve • Olivia's Coleslaw Chicken Wraps : see here for full video on making wraps - • How to make your own Wraps / Flatbread • For the coleslaw - finely chop half a cabbage, 1 onion and grate a large carrot and put a large dollop (technical measurement) of coleslaw dressing and another dollop of mayonnaise and mix! • For the wraps - Heat together 1.5 cups of milk and 4 tablespoons of butter • In bowl, put in 4 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt and the melted butter/milk mixture. • Mix until combined and divide into approx 8 balls. • Roll thinly with some flour so it's not sticky and cook in a hot pan for 20-30 second on each side. • Keep them under a towel so they stay warm and soft until ready to serve. • In the meantime, put the chicken drumsticks in the oven at 200oC for approx 35 minutes or until cooked. • Assemble wraps with chicken and coleslaw and devour!
