The US 1/Roosevelt Expressway was proposed in 1947 and completed by 1961 to connect Roosevelt Boulevard (Hunting Park) with the newly constructed I-76 Schuylkill Expressway. • A viaduct was proposed to run from Fernhill Park (2:05) over the SEPTA (2:35) rail line to Hunting Park (end of video); however, that was considered to be too costly so a shorter viaduct was constructed over the SEPTA line and then the road was depressed (very cool!) under N 16th St., N. 15th St., N. Broad St. and Old York Road until its end at Hunting Park where it becomes Roosevelt Blvd.
