Here are a few clips of the sgraffito process from some work yesterday. I absolutely love the meditative, long, slow quality of making mugs and decorating them with sgraffito. It’s a very different process to the intense chemistry glaze work I’ve been doing, and has felt like the perfect way to break things up and have a little mindless fun. • When I make mugs I make them all as if I’m going to keep each one. I choose my favourite shapes to hold or decorate and always make each one quite different. And I generally keep a couple from each batch. This collection is drawing from past work, and mug shapes that I’ve loved over the years. (And yep my mug cupboard is well over stacked 😂) • Of course I may end up luster glazing parts of these as well 😜 But we’ll see. It sounds quite nice to just make a batch of work that I know will mostly come through all the firings without issue. With the lusters there’s a very high fail rate because of the length and technicality of the process, as well as my constant desire to push boundaries. But I’m also highly addicted. Admittedly, I did spend the rest of yesterday filling up a luster glaze kiln. 😜 • Subscribe for more pottery fun! ✨🧚💖 #shorts #pottery #potteryprocess #ceramics #ceramicartist #rakuartist #glazeexperiments #potterystudio #glazingpottery
