This video essay explains the philosophical and historical underpinnings of the Bene Gesserit from the world of Dune. I focus on the idea of humanity, which under the ideology of the Bene Gesserit is a title labelled only for a select few: people like Paul Atreides and Lady Jessica, who have been bred and trained in accordance with the ultimate potential of their species. As I explain in the video, the goal of the Bene Gesserit is to create true human beings out of the species homo sapiens, and to place an ultimate human on the cosmic throne of the universe, who will be called the Kwisatz Haderach.
