Burrowing owls love to run! • Burrowing owls are unique in that we are the only species of owl that lives in burrows. We have relatively long legs compared to other owl species, which helps us hunt and navigate on the ground more effectively. Our long legs make us great runners and we use them to dart across the ground with lightening speed! • As a ground dwelling owl, I would spend a lot of time on the ground hunting for prey. I have keen eyesight and hearing and my wild relatives would always be on the lookout for insects, rodents and small birds to catch and eat. In fact my diet would consist mainly of insects like grasshoppers, beetles and crickets, which I would chase and catch on the ground. • Burrowing owls in the wild also have to be careful about predators. That’s why I’m so good at running and hiding! • So the next time you see me running around on the ground in a video, know that I’m doing what comes naturally to me. • Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the video and learning more about the life of burrowing owls.
