Oasis • Location: Manchester, England, U.K • Venue: Heaton Park • Date: 4th June 2009 • Source: Audience Recording • Beginning their last ever tour leg here in Manchester in Heaton Park for the first of three nights, Oasis began their Europe summer tour, which compared to the rest of the tour does feel a bit different to the shows that came before. Firstly, instead of wearing just black outfits throughout the show, Liam finally got to wear some more colourful apparel throughout these shows, normally wearing a green parka, which could also come down to him advertising his new clothing label, Pretty Green, which he still has today, much to the distaste of Noel who hated the project from day one. Secondly, unlike the previous shows which were held in arenas due to the cold wintery months, as it’s mid-summer the venues were mainly parks and stadiums for much of the tour, with the odd arena here and there. Lastly and most importantly, comes the setlist which has been given a touch of ‘classic Oasis’ throughout. I personally felt the setlist for the majority of this tour was lacking, and in need of a proper re-arrange as it looked very messy in places. For this summer tour, brought back several classics to the set, those being Roll With It, Live Forever, Half The World Away, and My Big Mouth. While it does mean that the set does stretch to almost two hours (even with songs being taken out for the new additions) it does make the set feel more identifiably ‘Oasis’. • Tonight though, this set doesn’t go without it’s problems. After beginning Rock N’ Roll Star there is a power cut and it takes a few minutes to sort it out, but soon they begin Lyla. As they finish up the song the power goes off again, and the crowd this time, despite being the home crowd for the band, are rightfully starting to get impatient. When the band does eventually come back on (this time the audience had to wait almost 15 minutes) Liam and Noel announce it’s a free gig due to the amount of delays that transpired, with Noel even saying the band were going to play until “they fucking throw us out”. Luckily though the rest of the show went on without any troubles as the sound and power stayed stable the rest of the show. When 20,000 of the 70,000 attendees applied for the refund, Noel subsequently called them “cheeky cunts”. As for the performance, it’s a another decent one for the time. Liam isn’t in magnificent form but does sound decent for the most part, and the rest of the band are in good enough shape though there’s not much here that stands out. The main highlight here is the recording, while distant and it means you can’t hear the band the best, you get to hear the enthusiastic crowd and there’s some funny banter to hear here (I’d recommend listening closely to the beginning of The Masterplan) which does make this show a worthwhile listen. I have cut down the waiting times between power cuts as they did in reality take a long time to fix, and it would’ve been a lot of chatting and not much music. • Setlist: • Fuckin’ in the Bushes (P.A) - 0:00 • Rock N’ Roll Star (aborted) - 2:07 • 1st Power Cut 4:42 • Lyla (aborted) - 6:23 • 2nd Power Cut/Announcement - 10:24 • The Shock Of Lightning - 12:22 • Cigarettes Alcohol - 17:39 • Roll With It (first time since 2001) - 21:42 • To Be Where There’s Life - 25:24 • Waiting For The Rapture - 32:12 • The Masterplan - 35:53 • Songbird - 40:56 • Slide Away - 43:14 • Morning Glory - 49:48 • My Big Mouth - 54:21 • The Importance Of Being Idle - 59:20 • Half The World Away - 1:03:44 • I’m Outta Time - 1:08:00 • Wonderwall - 1:12:34 • Live Forever - 1:16:47 • Supersonic - 1:21:41 • Don’t Look Back in Anger - 1:27:30 • Falling Down - 1:32:45 • Champagne Supernova - 1:38:05 • I Am The Walrus - 1:44:56 • Thanks to all tapers and uploaders, and a big thanks to Venetik! • • • • • • • • #oasis #oasislive #liamgallagher #noelgallagher
