Host Andrea Carson Barker catches up with Wanda Nanibush, an Anishinaabekwe artist, curator, filmmaker and writer, at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto where she was working as a guest curator. In a conversation that ranges over subjects from contemporary indigenous artists, land rights, foster care system reform to Nanabozho, the Ojibwe trickster figure and culture hero who breaks all boundaries, disrupts binaries and is okay with making a fool of themself – a figure Nanibush takes as a way of thinking about working and being in the world. • Wanda Nanibush is also a member of Ombaasin, a collective of First Nations word and image warriors committed to innovative cultural programming that builds community and helps the arts grow through spaces of experimentation and exchange. Ombaasin means to be lifted by the wind in Anishiinaabemowin. Its members also include Elwood Jimmy and Brian Norton. • See everything at http://akimbo.ca/tv • Subscribe to AkimboTV (http://bit.ly/AkimboTV) • Host: Andrea Carson Barker • Co-Director, Executive Producer: Geoffrey Shea • Co-Director: Joschi Shea • Camera, Editing: istoica • Executive Producer: Kim Fullerton • Braid of Resistance Images by: Henry Chan • Music by INA UNT INA • Title sequence including works from Laura Dawe, Bengt Collective, Tibi Tibi Neuspiel and the AGO collection
