He is most famous for being part of the hip hop group EPMD along with PMD and DJ Scratch during the 1980s and 1990s. Sermon started his career in 1986 as both a producer and artist with EPMD. He began making solo albums for Def Jam in 1993 and later reunited with EPMD in 1997. The next year, Sermon collaborated with Keith Murray and Redman to record a new version of the song Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.
