#Jaundice is a common #symptom of #liver disease, and occur due to various cause. • Alcohol, hepatitis virus A, B, E, bile duct stone, pancreas cancer, hemolysis, and gilbert syndrome are the most common cause of jaundice. In hindi language jaundice is also known as pilia or kala pilia. • 7 most common #causes of jaundice are • 1. Acute #Viral #hepatitis : Hepatitis A and E are most common cause of acute viral hepatitis. Patient has fever, vomiting followed by yellow urine and eyes. 1 % patients, can develop liver failure and require liver transplant. • 2. Chronic hepatitis: Hepatitis B and C are most common cause, Fatigue is most common symptom. • 3. #Alcohol : excessive alcohol can lead to jaundice, liver failure. • 4. #Bile duct #stone: CBD stone can block the duct and cause jaundice. Stone can be removed by ERCP. • 5. BIle duct #cancer: Bile duct cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, and pancreatic cancer, gall bladdder cancer are most common cause of cancer. Surgery is most effective treatmet. In advanced disease, stent can be placed. • 6. Hemolysis: Autoimmune hemolyic anemia, B 12 deficiency, hereditary spherocytosis can lead to hemplysis and jaundice. • 7. #Gilbert syndrome: Only indirect bilirubin will be increased. No treatment is required. • Cause of jaundice cab be diagnosed by asking questions to the patient, examination, blood test and imaging such USG, CT scan, MRI and EUS. With proper care, cure can be done in most of the patients with medicines.
