The Akash Bhairav Temple is said to have once been the majestic palace of King Yalambar of the Kirati dynasty, a relic from a time 3100 to 3500 years ago. The sacred grounds surrounding the temple are known as Yen, symbolizing Ne, or Midland, in the ancient Kirati tongue. Legend holds that the head of Akash Bhairav was uncovered in Kathmandu amidst a swirling inferno, a blazing fire that encircled the head of Akash Bhairav, illuminating its divine presence with an otherworldly glow. It is brought forth each year during the Yenya Festival, blessed by the Kumari, the living goddess who resides in the nearby realm of Basantapur. This revered ceremony, held in the months of August or September, draws throngs of devoted worshippers. The grand procession features the deity's head resting on a silver throne, borne aloft by lions, and accompanied by the powerful figures of Bhimsen and Bhadrakali. The face of the idol is believed to embody the mask that King Yalambar wore on his fateful journey to Kurukshetra, a testament to his legendary strength and valor. • The traditional puja involves various offerings like sacred water, flowers, and fruits, symbolizing devotion and respect. Worship of Akash Bhairav is associated with safety and strength, embodying the protection and goodwill that the deity brings to the nation and its people. The festival not only reinforces spiritual beliefs but also strengthens community bonds, showcasing the vibrant cultural tapestry of Nepal. • _________________________________________________ • Video Editing and Compilation : Stage 11 • _________________________________________________ • Subscribe to our YouTube channel and hit the notification bell to never miss a video.
