시리아 주민들 인도주의적 지원 • Years of war have devastated the lives of the Syrian people -- six million of whom are displaced within the country. • This week, the United Nations has emphasized the dire need for humanitarian support to help both residents and returnees rebuild. • UN Up Close this week... by Oh Sooyoung. • • Six years of war have left many parts of Syria in ruins -- including homes, water facilities and other vital infrastructure. • • The humanitarian and food security situation in Syria continues to deteriorate. Seven million people in Syria are already insecure and a further 2 million are at risk. That's 9 million inside Syria in need of food, agriculture and livelihood assistance. • The UN and other aid agencies are providing emergency assistance to cities across the country. • Meanwhile, the roughly 157-thousand people... who fled the formerly rebel-held eastern part of Aleppo last November... are now looking to return. • But their homes lay shattered and food supplies are scarce. • • “If you look around, there's hardly a house that is still intact and it's surprising that people are actually living in these ruins. There is no water, there's no electricity, there's nothing to cook. • The UN's World Food Programme has supplied 20 metric tons of food to nine public kitchens offering to prepare meals twice a day for 40-thousand people in Eastern Aleppo. • It has also provided food for 45-thousand returnees and displaced people in the area. • In Damascus, a water shortage that's lasted more than a month has left millions in the capital and surrounding areas in increasingly dire straits. • The main source of water had been targeted... as fighting escalated in the northern suburb of Wadi Barada. • In response, the UN trucked in water to several areas in Damascus and 101 schools that accommodate some 94-thousand children. • Now, with Wadi Barada under the control of Syrian government forces, water supplies are set to be restored again, as people try to go home. • • We are cleaning our home to rebuild it and stay in it. We are removing rubble because we will come back to live in it. We will build Syria, and make it even better than it used to be. • There's a long road ahead, but locals and relief agencies are striving to rebuild life in Syria. • Oh Soo-young, • Arirang News. • Visit ‘Arirang News’ Official Pages • Facebook(NEWS): / newsarirang • Homepage: http://www.arirang.com • Facebook: / arirangtv • Twitter: / arirangworld • Instagram: / arirangworld
