Yoga for the Piriformis will stretch and strengthen that little muscle deep within the glutes. This one-hour class will incorporate a gentle flow, balance, and stretches for the sciatic nerve as well. The Piriformis muscles run deep and are on both sides, connecting from the anterior of the sacrum to the femur. Constant sitting for long periods of time, overuse, or repetitive movements, can lead to inflammation, spasm, and hypertrophy (enlargement) of the Piriformis muscle. To complicate matters the sciatic nerve runs right behind it through the leg, increasing the likelihood of sciatic nerve irritation.
