Forgotten WWI Era Tunnels

Deep in the woods near Nyack, New York sits the remains of an old firing range that was used from 1910 to 1913 by the New York National Guard. The Blauvet Rifle Range Camp was located on Clausland Mountain which is now part of Blauvelt State Park. After its closer as a rifle range, the camp was used by multiple groups and organizations however the camp was never again used for target practice ever again. • Records show that the 8th. 9th, 14th, 22nd, 23rd, • 69th and 71st battalions trained at Blauvelt, as did the 13th and 14th coastal artillery • and the 1st and 2nd signal battalions, all from the greater New York area. • In 1930, the Army sent soldiers to Blauvelt for training • (presumably without target-practice, since the problem of errant bullets had never been solved). And when World War II broke out, Blauvelt again became a training ground—this time for soldiers from nearby Camp Shanks —as well as an air raid post.
