The Centers for Disease Control released a study showing that the rate of autism has increased 30 percent — from 1 in 88 in 2010 to 1 in 68 in 2012 (the most recent year for which data is available). Gabriel McHugh, a young adult living with autism in Columbia, S.C., had struggled with communication issues and behavioral problems when he was younger, but is now successfully working a part-time job at Rosewood Market.
