10-AUG-84 Norwegian Sea • We had destroyed a NATO at-sea replenishment convoy but we had taken a hit in return, and suffered our first casualty of this war. Alexei unfortunately suffered a head injury when the torpedo hit the ship, and drowned when his compartment flooded. The ship is still in fighting shape, thanks to the Engineer and staff. Though I will limit any excursions to test depth, at least until we go back to Murmansk for dockyard time. We had a brief service and consigned Alexei's remains to the deep via the torpedo tube. GLAVCOM has promised that Alexei will receive a citation as Hero of the Soviet Union. • We must carry on, as we have been tasked with hunting down a convoy from the US to Portsmouth. • • 12-AUG-84 North Atlantic • We had just settled on the shipping lanes from Newport, USA, when we got the recall order. Apparently the convoy had already slipped by us. • We were given a new assignment... For whatever reason that sounds plausible, the tension between the West and Soviet Union went taut, then snapped into open war. The Soviet Army can take Europe, if the Soviet Navy can stop or at least slow the amount of reinforcements reaching continental Europe from the US. And as a captain of a Soviet navy submarine, I will do my duty for the Motherland. • There is one mod to the campaign. I used the Small Mods guide (which I wrote, by the way) to remove the prestige requirement so I start in a Victor II, instead of the deathtrap diesel-electric subs like the Whiskey boats.
