Coke, sand, sawdust and salt are fed into electric furnaces that burn at six thousand degrees Celsius. Factory labourers work the large chunks of the material, which are crushed into pellets from crystal masses, while female workers cast small wheels of the material; one woman is shown in close-up. The film ends with the old man from the beginning, who is now working with a grindstone made of silicon carbide. • This is followed (in the Dutch copy) by a short cartoon of Emperor Wilhelm II, whose nose is placed against a grindstone, resulting in a piece of paper entitled “Willie's record” (his death list) being splattered with blood. • • Interested in licensing?
