In our last video we looked at the fight between the Chesapeake and Shannon and most particularly the fighting sword of Captain Philip Broke which he used in capturing the Chesapeake. Today we stay with the same battle but look at the relics that have survived from the fight. We have a number of relics to consider with one being the Chesapeake Mill in Wickham Hampshire, built from the pine timbers of the Chesapeake! Then we have several other important relics from the Shannon and to round it off a couple of fakes just to keep you focused on the fact that when it comes to important historical naval events, fakes may be created to satisfy a hungry collector community. Visit: http://www.simcomfort.co.uk/ to view our published works about British, French and American naval fighting swords used during the Age of Fighting Sail. From one of our viewers came the message that my maths are wrong! 12.5% survival isn't 12.5 to 1, but 8 to 1. Absolutely, so the correct total for five medals and one box all being NGS recipients is 8x8x8x8x8x8=262,144. Still an unlikely coincidence!
