For years I have worked on my pain in different ways, being in therapy, sharing with friends, crying, venting, trying to accept that it was not my fault, etc. However when I look at myself, my habit patterns and belief systems, I often come to a place where I feel that years of abuse in different forms has created this needy, angry and desperate person who is also scared to move on and work on oneself. • 18:01 - DEPENDENT ORIGINATION: Would you please explain the process of reversing dependent origination as a practical practice? Would you please consider giving a series of talks on Dependent Origination? • 32:14 - ETYMOLOGY OF THE WORD 'JHANA' : In Indo-European languages, the word 'jhana' is similar to the Persian word 'djan' (like 'john') meaning 'life or spirit'. When said as 'djana', it takes on a meaning of something that is deeply cherished, enjoyable and precious - often referring to God, a loved one, or someone who is emotionally significant. Conceptualizing 'jhana' as 'djana', a treasured, enjoyable experience would resonate with its Buddhist descriptive nature. I'm curious to know your thoughts on this potential conceptual connection between these terms. • 41:18 - CONDITIONED REALITY: In the Diamond Sutra it says: “All conditioned dharmas are like dreams, illusions, bubbles, shadows, like dew drops and a lightning flash. Contemplate them thus.” I can’t seem to find a straightforward answer explaining what “conditioned dharmas” are. Could you please explain? • 47:06 - VIRTUE: I once heard you pose the rhetorical question, How long does it take to purify your virtue? The answer was, seconds. Have I remembered that rightly and can you explain? • 52:18 - THE ONE WHO KNOWS : I've heard some Ajahns - for example - Ajahn Mun and some modern-day teachers - refer to the citta in ways that sound almost like it's permanent, even going as far to say that it exists outside of the 5 aggregates. This can sometimes seem conflicting with the suttas. Could please elaborate on what is meant by this?
