Yakushima Island had been looming on our Japan bucket list for 5 years and I'm so happy we carved out the time to visit this unique area of Japan. • We decided to take the Shinkansen and ferry, but you can also fly directly there. It really just depends on your time and budget! We also wanted to make sure we saw Kagoshima so the train just made sense for us. • Below are all the pins for where we went and the resources we used to plan this vacation. If you have a chance to go to Yakushima I can speak highly enough of this island. The weather is definitely unpredictable so bring PLENTY of rain gear and plan to get wet.
