Violet Alford Patterson was born in Clearview, Oklahoma in 1927 and grew up in the community of Little Hill and later Weleetka. In an oral history interview recorded in 2011 as part of the Spotlighting Oklahoma Oral History Project, Mrs. Patterson recalls how black schools in Okfuskee County would come together for academic contests in the historic town of Boley.
