In 1975, Bob Stewart introduced a new game show idea to the networks called Blankety Blanks, hosted by Bill Cullen. In this game, two teams of two compete, one celebrity and one civilian as they look at a clue to a subject, and seven various letters in three different sentences, all of which offer clues to the correct answer. Bill randomly pulls a card from a slow-spinning carousel, none of which are marked but after being inserted in a machine on his desk, selects one of the four contestants and a chance to win that amount of money should they answer correctly with no conferring, otherwise Bill makes another selection. The first side to give the correct answer gets a chance at the Blankety Blank punchline, and they are allowed to confer. If they're wrong, the money that could've been won is banked for future reference should they return to the punchline, but should they be right, they bank the money they earn and give a strike to their opponent. Three strikes for any contestant eliminates them from the game, but they leave with any amount of money they've won. • For this pilot, the celebrity partners are Anita Gillette and Soupy Sales, while the contestants are Sue, who is partnered with Anita, while Soupy's civilian partner is Candy. Blankety Blanks did sell under a slightly different format, but only lasted ten weeks on air. Was this format good, or did it deserve the tweak? • NOTE: Not only is this the last episode of Blankety Blanks in my collection, but it's also the last episode that is known to exist besides the premiere. So officially, this is the last episode of Blankety Blanks • (c) 1975 Bob Stewart Productions.
