Canada’s Philip Kim, widely known as Phil Wizard, made history today by securing the gold medal in breaking at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This marks the first time breaking has been included as an Olympic sport, and Phil Wizard—who grew up in Vancouver—has quickly become a household name across Canada. • Phil delivered an outstanding performance in the gold medal round, facing off against France's Danis Civil, also known as Dany Dann. His exceptional display left little doubt, and the judges confirmed it with a decisive 23-4 victory. • The bronze medal in the event went to the USA’s Victor Montalvo. • Phil Wizard dominated all three of his battles in the round-robin stage of the B-Boys breaking competition. He then advanced through the quarterfinals by defeating the Netherlands' Lee-Lou Demierre with a score of 19-8, followed by a 17-10 win against Japan's Shigeyuki Nakarai in the semifinals. • Commentators repeatedly noted Phil’s calm and composed demeanor throughout the day. However, the 27-year-old revealed to Kelly VanderBeek yesterday that he had been quite nervous leading up to the event, admitting, “I still have self-doubt every day.” • Any doubts have now been laid to rest, as Phil becomes the first-ever Olympic gold medalist in breaking—a title he will hold for some time, as the sport will not be featured in the LA 2028 Olympics. • Phil’s victory contributed to Canada’s medal count, as Katie Vincent also took home gold in the women’s canoe single 200m final. This brings Canada’s total to three medals, with Edmonton’s Marco Arop earning silver in the men’s 800m final, making him the first Canadian to medal in that event since Bill Cothers in 1964. • Our whole channel is found here: / @wowinteresting4u
