Tomar Binay Gaan Chhilo is a compilation of Rabindra Sangeet sung by two legendary singers K.L.Saigal and Pankaj Kumar Mullick. These two names are like two pillars in the world of Bengali songs and especially Tagore Songs. • K L Saigal, who is most notably known for his prolific playback and acting career in early Bollywood industry but his liking for Tagore Songs and eventually his soulful renditions did earn him a great accolade. K L Saigal came to Calcutta in the early 1930s and came into close association with stalwarts like R C Boral, Pankaj Kumar Mullick, K C Dey and Pahari Sanyal. K L Saigal at that time was working with B N Sircar’s Calcutta based studio New Theaters. K L Saigal remained associated with the New theaters even after he shifted base to Bombay for his Playback and film career. This compilation Tomar Binay Gaan Chhilo comprises six renditions of K L Saigal’s Rabindra Sangeet all sung for various films like Jiban Maran and Parichaya produced by the New Theaters. One of the most famous among these is the song Ektuku Chhonwa Lagey which K L Saigal sang for the film Parichaya released in 1981 directed by Satyen Bose. • The second artist in this compilation is the legendary singer and composer Pankaj Kumar Mullick. Though Pankaj Kumar Mullick is greatly remembered as one of the greatest music directors from the Bengali and Hindi film industry his reputation as a Rabindra Sangeet singer is also exponential. Pankaj Kumar Mullick was a very close friend of Dinendra Nath Tagore and eventually became a very close ally of Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore's song, Nemecche Aaj Prothom Badal became his first commercial recording, with the Kolkata-based Videophone Company in 1926, He was only eighteen years old. Pankaj Mullick in his prolific musical career has recorded many Bengali songs,especially Rabindra Sangeet. This compilation Tomar Binay Gaan Chhilo has fourteen Tagore Songs sung by Pankaj Kumar Mullick. Some of the most famous among these are “Aji Basanta Jagrata” which is a Basanta Prayer Gaan or a Tagore song categorized under the sub genre of Spring, which essentially characterizes the season. Another very famous Rabindra Sangeet sung by Pankaj Kumar Mullick which is there in this compilation is “Diner Sheshe Ghumer” , this song is probably the most popular Rabindra Sangeet sung by Pankaj Kumar Mullick.
