The songs, sights and sounds of America are all around for anyone to listen to, see and interpret in his own way. These books are simply my own particular interpretation of those aspects of our country which I have lived with and loved for a long time. [...] • The five volumes are arranged in generally progressive order, starting with the very earliest beginner. It is not necessary that the student play all the pieces from beginning to end in the order in which they appear. [...] • Why did I base this series on American folk and popular sources? 1.) Bacause of the great beauty of this music; 2.) because of its strong appeal to the American imagination at this time; 3.) because of presents certain technical and musical features of great interest to the modern mind (i.e. modal scales, changing meters, syncopation, etc.); and 4.) because it is a means of introducing the child to the point of view of the American composer. [...] • Rec.: 24 October (Nos. 1-4), 25 October (Nos. 5-10), 26 October (Nos. 11-14), 27 October (No. 15) 2024; piano Shigeru Kawai SK-3.
