The Liturgy of the Hours Explained

The official daily prayer of the Catholic Church is called the Liturgy of the Hours. • It gets that name hours because there are multiple times (hours) throughout the day to pray. • The Liturgy of the Hours also goes by the name Divine Office, which essentially means holy duty or holy work. Liturgy is a word that means work. • • Every priest, deacon, monk, and nun prays at designated times throughout the day using a book (or these days apps and websites) to pray in unison. • Lay people are welcome to join in as well during any or all of these prayers. • Each set of prayers do not last a full hour and do not need to be prayed at specific hours anymore.
