The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... • For centuries, poets have held a special place in our hearts and minds, captivating us with their words and artistry. Poetry not only shapes our cultural identity but also mirrors our deepest emotions and experiences as humans. Poetry has the unique ability to draw us in, reigniting our childlike sense of wonder and grounding us in the present moment. But beyond its artistic appeal, how does poetry affect our mental and physical well-being? How can it bridge the gap between our inner thoughts and our outward actions? Jazmarie La Tour, a Pacific alum and the Poet Laureate of the City of Stockton, will explore the profound and transformative power of poetry. Jazmarie LaTour is the Poet Laureate of Stockton and a University of the Pacific alumna. As a queer BIPOC woman from Stockton, Jazmarie has been writing and performing poetry since 2008. Since then, Jazmarie has performed, coached and shared stages with many artists including opening for Grammy Award-winning recording artist Common and esteemed civil rights activist Angela Davis. Jazmarie’s passion for the arts prompted her to create a local Open Mic for her local community, a monthly platform that has been • serving the community since 2017. She has been published in three anthologies and self-published her own body of work entitled “The Nature of Her.” Jazmarie’s love for spoken word poetry has given her the courage to speak, heal and connect with herself and others. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
