Once a country builds alliance with the United Arab Emirates, there’s no coming back. The UK get to witness the consequences of a “special relationship” with the UAE • In April 2024, the UK increased the pressure on the Emirates to stop supporting Sudan’s RSF militia, which is accused of ethnic cleansing and besieging El Fasher in Darfur. Consequently, the Arab nation cancelled multiple meetings with the British officials • In May 2024, British deputy PM Oliver Dowden secretly visited the UAE to restore the relations. Within a month, by June 2024, the British stance over Sudan changed. The UK officials allegedly tried to suppress criticism of the UAE regarding its military support for RSF • Claims suggested that the UK Foreign Office pressured African diplomats not to condemn the UAE. Accusations implied that Britain prioritized relations with the UAE over Darfur civilian safety. Yonah Diamond, a human rights lawyer, also heard from the sources during talks in Ethiopia that the UK was discouraging some states from criticising the Emirates • The talks involved officials from the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. They were looking to gather support for legal action against the UAE for its alleged role. The UAE denies involvement in supporting Sudan's RSF. But, the UN sanctions monitors find claims of the Emirati support for RSF “credible” • British officials also denied allegations of discouraging criticism against the UAE. The UK leads the UN Security Council's activities on Sudan, being the current “penholder”. The FCDO pointed to the UK-led UN resolution that called on the RSF to “halt their siege” on El Fasher and restrain all member states from external interference • But, critics argued that the resolution should have explicitly mentioned UAE and Iran. The Darfur Diaspora Association leader, Abdallah Idriss Abugarda raised concerns about British interests, accusing the FCDO of favouring UAE ties and not caring about its “moral obligation” • The UK-UAE relations are now under scrutiny amid accusations that Britain and its officials are prioritizing economical and their personal interests over human rights. • #UK #UAE #sudanconflict • ************** • Check out latest videos 👇 • UAE Supplying Drones to Sudan: Conflict Impact Revealed • • UAE Supplying Drones to Sudan: Confli... • Why the U.S. Can't Stop the UAE's Actions in Sudan • • Why the U.S. Can't Stop the UAE's Act... • UAE-UK Tensions Rise Over Sudan War • • UAE-UK Tensions Rise Over Sudan War • Thousands of Sudanese demonstrators rallied in the Capital of Sudan Khartoum • • Thousands of Sudanese demonstrators r... • Sudan Plunges into Chaos After Prime Minister Hamdok Resigns • • Sudan Plunges into Chaos After Prime ... • The Power Play of UAE's Mansour Bin Zayed and General Dagalo in Sudan • • The Power Play of UAE's Mansour Bin Z... • ************** • Subscribe to the channel Worldify • / @worldify.
