Two major units previously under US Army Alaska became the 11th Airborne Division in early June as part of a new strategic plan to focus on Arctic dominance. The move was made to prepare for future conflicts in cold-weather environments. The 11th’s paratroopers will join the 82nd Airborne Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade as large-scale, rapidly deployable airborne light-infantry units.
