We can see something very space very close by like a laptop or even read a book which is kept very close to our face. This is because of the lens which is there inside the ey has the ability to change the focal length. So it can change the focal length according to your requirements. It can see distance it can see intermediate or computer, it can see near. As once reaches the age of mid 40's to late 40's the ability of the the lens to change the focal length decreases because of the elasticity of the lens decreases. So this condition is called as presbyopia. In Hindi is an excellent word called as chalisa since it occurs after the age of 40 years. So treatment of presbyopia usually used to be in olden time bifocal glasses that is one for distance and one for reading but with the time requirements have changed people require glasses to see computer which is not close to the face but it'll further away. So glasses also changed. So now we have got what is called as progressive glasses where one can see all distances through the glasses. But it takes some time to adjust to this progressive glasses. Is there a treatment for this presbyopia? Yes there is a treatment for presbyopia which is laser. But this is done in only one eye. That is you make one eye to see distance and with one eye a person starts seeing near so you correct one eye with laser to start seeing near. It takes some time for the persons to adjust to this treatment we give them the option. We show it to them this is what the person will see the person is acceptable to this condition then this treatment is done. So after the treatment is done it takes some time for the brain to adjust to this new system. I call this as a system because one eye is seeing distant object, one eye is seeing intermediate or near object. Because of the neuro adaptability of our beautiful brain this is is possible. Younger the treatment done better are the results or lesser is the time for the person to adjust to this new system.
