For Balto, life on the outer edges of society in Nome is both hard and lonely; his only close friend is Brosi, a cranky but lovable Russian snow goose. Because Balto is half-wolf, no one trusts him. Only a little girl named Rosy and her beautiful husky Jenna seem to see that there is more to Balto than meets the eye. Things take an ominous turn when Rosy and the other children of Nome begin to fall sick. Dangerous storms are preventing the delivery of the medicine by ship or airplane. A dog sled team is the only hope. On the way back from picking up the medicine, the dog sled team, led by the sinister Steele, becomes disoriented and stranded with their musher knocked unconscious. When time running out for Rosy, Balto journeys into the wild to find the lost dog sled team and lead them home through perilous conditions. • Cast: Kevin Bacon (Balto); Bob Hoskins (Boris Goosinov); Bridget Fonda (Jenna); Jim Cummings (Steele); Phil Collins (Muk and Luk); Juliette Brewer (Rosy); Miriam Margolyes (old Rosy); Jack Angel (Nikki); Danny Mann (Kaltag); Robbie Rist (Star); Sandra Dickinson (Dixie); • Song: “Reach for the Light” • Directed by Simon Wells • U.S. Theatrical Release Date: December 22, 1995 • U.S. Home Media Release Dates: April 2, 1996 (VHS/LD); August 11, 1998 (VHS); February 19, 2002 (DVD); April 4, 2017 (Blu-ray); • Trivia: • • Original score composed by James Horner; • • Brendan Fraser was originally hired to provide the voice of Steele, the evil dog.
