Another demonstration of the incredible musical possibilities of a replica of the ancient Greek Kithara/Cithara (κιθάρα) - the favoured lyre of the true professional musicians of ancient Greece. This improvisation, in authentically pure just intonation, featuring the ancient Greek Phrygian Mode (misnamed the 'Dorian' Mode in the Middle Ages), demonstrates the wonderful classical guitar like tones this beautiful instrument produces with finger-style playing techniques - indeed, it is from the word kithara that modern guitar actually derived its name! • Actually mastered from a rough mobile phone recording of a Luthieros replica kithara whilst I was in Thessaloniki for my first ever series of international live lyre gigs, towards the end of this video presentation, I also attempt to demonstrate the incredible reconstructed old vibrato mechanism, invented by the ancient Greeks, some 2500 years before the first Fender Stratocaster electric guitar!
