This talk will look at how to understand the Bardo Thodol, popularly known as the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and its relation to tantra and Dzogchen. The Bardo teachings encompass both Vajrayana and Dzogchen. They are essentially intended for this life, not just for the death process, and take us into the realm beyond birth and death. Francesca will talk about them in the light of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s and Rigdzin Shikpo’s inspiration. • Francesca Fremantle is a scholar and translator of Sanskrit and Tibetan and was a close student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche for many years. She translated the Tibetan Book of the Dead with Trungpa Rinpoche and wrote Luminous Emptiness, an extensive commentary on this famous text.
