It's Dog Show time again! Moderator Joel asks the panel whether the popularity of dog shows being televised like Westminster or The National Dog Show has helped or hurt dogs. • Steve Diller talks about attending past dog shows and how he enjoyed seeing the beautiful dogs up close, speaking to breeders, handlers, seeing pedigree lines and getting the best information possible on the breed. But on the other hand he said dog shows might not be so great for some of the dogs themselves and what they have to go through. He said that those dogs might be thinking why, why, why - what am I doing here?!! • Pam Loeb who shows her Brussels Griffon, said that even with more TV coverage of dog shows she feels it hasn't seemed to increase the number of pure bred dogs she sees in her state of Vermont, and that most of the dogs these days are rescues that came off a truck from the South. • Joyce Keeton said she has clients who buy a rare breed and while they are very proud of their dog they may not understand the responsibility that comes with having a rare breed with special needs, and understanding that what means and what will keep it happy. • Do you think televised dog shows are good or bad for dogs? • Steve Diller http://www.stevediller.com/ • Steve has been training for 30 plus years as well as 14 years working in the animal field as one of the first licensed vet techs in New York State.
