School psychologists help school staff and the community understand what supports and strategies will best help each student along the way. They also help identify ways to strengthen and build students’ social-emotional skills; and school psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. They are also important members of school safety and crisis teams. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William County School Board and the Superintendent of Schools recognize the week of November 11-15, 2024, as National School Psychology Week in Prince William County Public Schools and urge all school employees and the public to highlight the important work that school psychologists do to help all our students thrive. Approved by the Prince William County School Board on October 2, 2024. • Transgender Awareness Week: As of November 13 to November 19, this is an opportunity for students, educators and community members to increase visibility of the transgender community and to raise awareness of the experiences of transgender and gender nonconforming students, who often face hostile school environments. It is also a one-week celebration leading up to the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which memorializes victims of transphobic violence.
