Welcome back. • Roundabouts are used the world over. They are popping up in Windsor and around the county. Sandwich Street, Erie Street, Walker Road, the new Banwell Road roundabout and the Herb Gray roundabout come to mind. Let’s explore roundabouts and chat about rules, benefits, and best practices for safely navigating these traffic circles. • Please like and subscribe, I really would appreciate the help. So! • There are only a few steps to successfully Navigating a Roundabout. • Step 1. Be aware of signage indicating you are approaching a roundabout. • Step 2. Slow down as you approach and look for pedestrians and cyclists • Step 3. Yield to traffic on the left already in the roundabout. • Step 4. Move with the traffic flow and stay in your lane • Step 5. Use your right turn signal before exiting • That’s it. Follow those five steps and you won’t have any problems. • There are common mistakes and misconceptions to be aware of. Drivers may incorrectly attempt to turn left into a roundabout, maybe thinking to make a U-turn. Roundabouts travel in a counterclockwise direction, you must turn right to enter and right to exit, always. • Be aware of the signage approaching a roundabout and slow down. Once close enough yield to pedestrians and traffic to the left. If there is no traffic, or a safe gap is available, don’t stop, enter the roundabout and turn on your right turn signal as you approach and take your exit. • By following these rules, new and experienced drivers will gain the skills and knowledge needed to safely and efficiently use roundabouts, contributing to improved traffic flow and safety on the roads. That’s something we all want, right! • I’m curious. Have you had a bad experience using a roundabout? Been cut off, or maybe even in a fender bender. I would love to hear the story.
