In 2013 there was a battle in the statin wars between The BMJ and The Lancet, really standing in in as proxies for the authors of two brief articles which can fairly be classed as Statin Hesitant (Abramson et al, and Malhotra) and Dr. Rory Collins, a statin proponent. • This video is not a review of that controversy, which will take a bit more study before I can give a fair assessment. However, I did find an opinion piece by Dr. Richard Lehman of the University of Birmingham that I believe is pertinent to this controversy and to the broader topics covered on this channel. In this video, I briefly review Dr. Lehman's editorial. • [1] Should people at low risk of cardiovascular disease take a statin? • https://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f... • John D Abramson, lecturer 1,Harriet G Rosenberg, professor emeritus2,Nicholas Jewell, professor3,James M Wright, co-managing director and chair4 • BMJ 2013 • [2] Saturated fat is not the major issue • https://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f... • seem Malhotra, interventional cardiology specialist registrar, Croydon University Hospital, London • BMJ 2013 • [3] Richard Lehman: Where next with statins? • https://blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2016/09/12/... • BMJ, September 2016 • ------------------------------------- • DISCLAIMER: The following presentation and all presentations on this channel are for informational purposes only and should not be used to diagnose or treat any medical condition.
