The magical story tells of Amahl, a disabled boy who befriends the Three Kings when they stop at his house on their journey to see the newborn Jesus. Amahl decides to give his crutch to Jesus, at which point his leg is miraculously healed. Long a Christmas favourite, this new Viennese production, sung in German, boldly re-examines the story finding its key elements to be fantasy, empathy and the enduring power of love. • Amahl und die nächtlichen Besucher • Opera in one act (1951) • Libretto by the composer • Sung in a German translation by Kurt Honolka • Amahl – Tempu Ishijima, Boy Soprano (Soloist of the Vienna Boys Choir) • Amahl’s Mother – Dshamilja Kaiser, Mezzo-Soprano • King Kaspar – Paul Schweinester, Tenor • King Melchior – Nikolay Borchev, Bass-Baritone • King Balthazar – Wilhelm Schwinghammer, Bass • Arnold Schoenberg Chor • Wiener Symphoniker • Conductor – Magnus Loddgard • Stage Director – Stefan Herheim • Film Director – Götz Filenius • Filmed on 17 and 18 December 2022 at MuseumsQuartier, Hall E, MusikTheater an der Wien, Vienna, Austria • A production of VBW in cooperation with Naxos • © 2022 All rights reserved • DVD 2.110763 / Blu-ray NBD0175V • #naxosmusic #classicalmusic #naxosaudiovisual • *** • Listen to Naxos playlists: • Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/naxosof... • Apple Music: https://apple.co/2LPfG8G • Follow us: • Facebook: / naxos • Instagram: / naxosmusic • Twitter: / naxosrecords • Naxos Blog: https://blog.naxos.com/ • Website: https://www.naxos.com/
