Mesquite TX Suspect injured during shooting with officers at charter school police say

A person entered a Mesquite charter school with a gun on Feb. 19, 2024, resulting in an officer-involved shooting as police responded, but no students or officers were injured, officials said. • The incident happened shortly before 9 a.m. at the Pioneer Technology Arts Academy in Mesquite, a charter school located at 3200 Oates Drive, off Gus Thomasson Road. • Officials posted on the school's Facebook page that a situation was handled expeditiously and that all are safe. • Mesquite police said officers were dispatched to an active shooter call after a report of someone entering the school with a gun. • Officers responded and attempted to negotiate with the subject, police said in a release. • During the process of negotiating, an officer involved shooting occurred, the release said. • The suspect was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
