originally recorded on 5-16-24 • Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Siemens gate mechanism, an NEG LED gate light, and a RECO LED gate light. • Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a nearly-dead Modern Industries mechanical bell, a GRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights. • After I caught M521 heading south out of Alabaster, I decided to chase it on south to this crossing in Thorsby, since I figured it should've allowed for good lighting on the side with the bell. Unfortunately, it seems M521 got held-up in Calera for for some unknown reason for a couple of hours or so, so by the time it got down here the shot was a bit backlit. Oh well. • Either way, here we see CSX M521 on its journey south once again. • As you can see, since I was last here, nothing appears to have been replaced on this crossing (yet). Unfortunately, the MI bell here is pretty much shot by this point, only letting out a few weak rings and clicking the rest of the time. I suspect the bell having begun to ring while the gates are down a few years back has sadly caused it to wear-out. I wouldn't be too surprised if this bell is replaced with an NEG e-bell before too long. The signal on the far side also appears to have had its gate arm struck, as the tip of it is noticeably damaged and is also missing the tip gate light. • Speaking of gate arms, neither arm here is long enough, and neither even cover half of the driveway.
